Five Unique Handmade Baby Gifts to Make For Baby Showers

If you are looking for baby gifts to make but are bored with the standard blanket and baby booties, here are five unique and unusual (yet still functional!) gifts to create that would be perfect baby shower gifts.

Folding Crib

Time Capsule - Don't you wish someone had made you a time capsule of things from the year you were born? Collect newspaper and magazine clippings of current events, trends and fashion, a small toy from the most current hot children's movie and last, but not least, take photos of their home and their city! Document their neighborhood, take snapshots at the local grocery store, the post office, cars on the street, the local school, the front of their house, their parents and their family! Include notes from family members and a special letter from you introducing them to the world. Collect it all and put it in a decorative wooden keepsake box, leaving some room for the parents to add some things of their own. Just think what a treasure this will be when they are your age! Padded Mat - No, it isn't just another boring blanket! This time, create an extra thick and padded blanket, a cushy surface that will be perfect for tummy time, even on hardwood floors. Get creative with it and add "activity" toys to it, such as detachable soft toys, flaps that hide bright pictures and small ribbon tags. You could even line the bottom with waterproof PUL fabric which will turn it into the perfect outside on wet grass park blanket. Name Blocks - Purchase enough blank wooden blocks at a craft store to spell out baby's name. Decorate each block with the letter an/or images that start with that letter. You could paint with non-toxic acrylic paint, decoupage with paper or fabric or wood burn your design. For design ideas, look at the crib bedding set that the parents registered for and use the same theme or color scheme on your blocks. Mix CD - Make baby a mix CD? Yes! Create a mix CD of soothing music, classical is an obvious choice but get creative with music in your collection or check out iTunes for lullaby ideas. Alternatively, a fun and upbeat mix of baby friendly music might be just the thing! Face it, most music marketed towards babies is terrible and many parents would love to have a "normal music" CD to listen to that is still baby friendly. Handmade Books - You can purchase blank board books that are the perfect canvas for your own stories! If baby will live far away from extended family, create a story using real photos of family members so that baby can get to know them. Or, create a funny story about the family pet, your own version of an alphabet book, a picture book with different kinds of cars or butterflies, etc. Draw your own or create collages from actual photographs or magazine pictures.

Travel Cots and Portable Bedding Choices for Children

Popular with on-the-go parents, travel cots are designed to be used by infants, toddlers and small children. Depending on the child's size and age, these cots can come in various forms such as bassinets, foldable cribs, covered mesh tents and low-to-the-ground beds. Each is designed to be compact and assembles/folds within minutes. Since items are made from fabric and sometimes contain a thin, mesh netting, they are protectively stored in a covered bag.

Folding Crib

Baby bassinets, designed to fold and be portable, feature high fabric sides and mesh side windows. The baby is able to lie flat and there are no obstructive surfaces. Infants, unless being able to stand-up, cannot pull-down the sides or panels, as these are located a substantial distance from the baby's arms. When it is time for the baby to graduate from the foldable bassinet, the next size up is the foldable crib.

Folding Crib

Making improvements from traditional folding cribs, today's cribs are lightweight and are more compact. Cribs are optimal for infants who can sit-up, stand or roll-over. If you are not sure which type of foldable sleeping solution would work best for your child, be sure to view the item's weight limitations as well as given length and width sleeping measurements. As an alternative, parents may wish to consider purchasing a folding sleeping tent.

Different from typical children's tents, a travel tent intended for sleeping does not have any side slits or Velcro entrances. Ideal for older infants and small toddlers, these have completely mesh sides and allow parents to see children at all times. A smart choice for camping situations or in instances where children may be exposed to bugs, these types of travel cots are ideal for children who are not ready to sleep off the ground. If your child is ready for a low but off-the-ground bed, a foldable cot is a good solution.

Similar to a folding chair, cots designed for travel are quickly assembled and stored. Sometimes also known as "travel beds," these cots come in a variety of colors and character designs. Used for traveling, cots provide a low bed for children who may fall out of a traditional hotel's bed or are ideal for adding an extra sleeping area in an overnight location. Some come with matching sheets, as cots require toddler-sized sheets. Ideal for post-travel use, these are also popular with parents who have their children enrolled in daycare. Designed with young children in mind, travel beds also have washable canvas sleeping areas, making them perfect for children who may have nighttime accidents.

The next time you are traveling with your child, be sure to investigate these portable, space-saving bedding options.

Need to get rid of that clutter but don't have a lot of money to spend on storage solutions? Before you throw anything away, see if you can salvage and reinvent it as a storage container.

Folding Crib

Do you have an empty but pretty cardboard tissue box? I use these to store my disposable gloves. I use disposable gloves for cleaning around the house so I keep them in a couple of spots. Just stuff them into the box and they are easy to pull out when you need them. Also, if you are a caregiver you go through a lot of these gloves...this is a good way to store them. They can also be used in dresser drawers to store knee-hi pantyhose and kids' white socks (this only works if they wear the same kind of white socks all the time - like we do at my house). This saves a ton of matching and folding pairs of socks.

Folding Crib

Milk crates...sometimes you can get these from your local grocery store or for some reason you will have one or two in the garage. You can buy paint especially for plastic now that works well on these if they aren't in good shape and they work well for kids toys, books. If you cut a wooden plywood seat to fit the top, then cut smaller blocks in a square under the top that will fit within the top of the crate to hold it in place and pad it then cover with cloth, you have made a little seat for your child that also holds his or her toys.

Do you have empty plastic pencil boxes? Use these to organize all those pencils, pens, screws, batteries, and such in your kitchen junk drawer (don't pretend you don't have one). Then when you need one of these stray items you can find it! Be sure to label what is in each box. You can also use those Gladware or Ziplock plastic bowls and containers - I use them a lot for this purpose.

How about under your bed? Do you have room under there? If you have those rolling plastic drawers that's great. If you don't and have some scrap lumber lying around you can make your own to custom fit under the bed. You can even stain or paint them and make them decorative if you want them to be seen. Put handles on them so they are easy to pull out. We did this with my daughter's crib and stored extra blankets and diapers in it. We made the drawer slightly smaller than the crib and painted it white to match the crib and put wheels on it. If you don't want to make a drawer, then take a flat board half the width of the bed, put a handle on the edge (and wheels on the bottom if you like), and place your boxes on it. You can place several side by side the length of the bed. At least you can pull out the boxes easily by just sliding out the board. Store shoes, out of season clothing or your scrapbooking materials here without having to crawl around on the floor to pull things out from under the bed.

Here's a tip for storing extra blankets and pillows you don't use often: Spread your extra blankets and comforters between the mattress and boxspring. Put the extra pillows into your pillow shams you use for decoration on your bed. Or fold the blankets up and use them to stuff the pillow shams! Then you aren't using valuable closet or drawer space to store these items and they are accessible at a moment's notice.

If you don't have room to store everything away out of sight, use baskets to store personal articles, extra underwear, socks, and makeup. Boxes with lids are another option. If they aren't pretty, cover them with pretty wallpaper or decoupage cutouts or photographs to the boxes. There are easy instructions on the internet for this.

If you don't have a lot of cabinet space for pots and pans, build a simple pot rack out of scrap 2X4 lumber and hang it from the kitchen ceiling over your workspace using chain. You can paint or stain it to match your decor and buy hooks from which to hang the pots and pans. Or if you want a more rustic look, use an old multi-pane window frame that is missing the glass for this purpose. Just screw short pieces of chain into the frame, hang the hooks onto the chain, hang your pots onto the hooks.

The Most Important Decisional Factors When Buying a Mattress

Acquiring a mattress is a very important furniture piece you should make because you spend a third of your time on a mattress, unless you have a tendency to sleep most of the nights in an armchair like my grandfather does.

Folding Crib

The seven next factors below are things you must be aware of and to take in account before you purchase a mattress because that mattress will play a major role in the quality of your sleep over night and your mood from the next day.

Folding Crib

1. Establish on a budget. The prices of mattresses much vary. If price is your primary condition you may find an cheap mattress and box spring set for a couple of hundred dollars. But I recommend purchasing the finest mattress and box spring you can afford. My first two mattress buys were based on cost and I never truly got a good night sleep. I economized and purchased a superior quality mattress some years ago. It was a great purchasing decision. I now awake feeling reposed and freshened, not tired and sore like I accustomed.

2. Determine what size mattress you are going to purchase. If you are purchasing a mattress for a young boy a twin size mattress is good, but if you are a major person and there are two people sleeping in the bed I do not advise going with something smaller than a queen size bed. If you are able to afford a king-size bed and you own the room for it, I recommend it.

I now have a king size bed and it's decent having plenty space in bed to turn around without perturbing my mate like I did once. But if you consider a full-size mattress is big enough for two people consider this: a full size mattress gives each person the same amount of bed width as in a baby crib. Queen size mattresses are the commonest size but if two people are sleeping in a queen size bed each person still has 10,5 inches less bed width than if they were sleeping by themselves in a twin bed.

The standard sizes of mattresses are: Double/Full: 54" wide, 75" long; Queen: 60" wide, 80" long; KING: 76" wide, 80" long; Twin: 39" wide, 75" long; Twin Extra Long: 38" wide; 80" long; California KING: 72" wide, 84" long.

3. Examine. Test. Essay. Experiment the softness of the mattresses. Go to various stores and lay down on different mattresses. See what you find comfortable. A firm mattress isn't always the best mattress. It depends on the individual. If you and your partner prefer different firmness levels look for a mattress that can have different firmness levels on each side. For example, I prefer a firmer mattress than my mate does so his side of the bed is less firm than mine. Comfort (as long as you are in your within the range of your budget) might be your first consideration.

4. Don't be excessively troubled about the words, firm, extra firm, and so on. especially when looking at mattresses from another manufacturers. Firmness is not standardized in the mattress industry. One of the producers "firm" mattress could in reality be firmer than another producer "extra firm" mattress. Seek for comfort and support. You want to feel cradled and assured when you lay down on a mattress. And don't feel self-aware about going into shops and lying down on as many mattresses as you want. It is the best method to tell if a mattress is or isn't appropriate for you. Lying on a mattress with your coat and shoes on is not going to aid you find out what mattress is appropriate for you unless you plan on sleeping in your coat and shoes every night. So take them out.

5. Warranty is crucial but not as important as you could guess. A mattress with a 25 year guarantee is great, but the life expectancy of a high quality mattress is only about 10 years. You want a warranty to protect you from faults and troubles. To me a sleep warranty is more significant than a longer warranty. What I mean by a sleep warranty is that you are given a time period to try out your mattress. For instance, some stores and producers give sleep warranty of up to ninety days although thirty days is the basic. If during that time you decide the mattress you purchased is not right for you, you are able to either exchange it or return it for a refund.

For instance, when I bought my last mattress from a sleep specialty shop that custom builds each mattress (Verlo), it came with a 60 day sleep guarantee or trial period. If we did not like the mattress the store would come to our house, pick up the mattress, take it back to their factory and rebuild it for us. I liked that peace of mind. After sleeping on our mattress for a couple of weeks I decided my side was a little too firm. We called the store where we bought it and made an engagement for them to come and pick it up. The store picked up our mattress in the morning, took it to their store/factory, reconstructed it, and delivered it back lately the same day. They did this so we would not be without a mattress to sleep on.

6. Get familiar with the next terms: innerspring and box spring (also called the foundation). Innerspring mattresses are, the most common type of mattress bought. An innerspring mattress is built with tempered steel coils encased in layers of cushioning and upholstery. The box spring or foundation is what the mattress sits on. It is typically not considered a good idea to put a fresh mattress on an old box spring. A producer box spring and mattress are projected to work together to give you the best product. In addition, many manufacturers will void their warranty if a mattress is not placed on the box spring that is designed to go with it.

7. Know what alternatives you have in addition to the conventional innerspring and box spring sets. There are other feasible choices depending on what you are searching for. Those alternatives include foam mattresses, futons, airbeds, adjustable beds, and waterbeds.

Foam mattresses - a foam mattress can be built of firm foam piece or may be composed of several layers of various types of foam. Several foam mattresses have a top layer that is formed of memory foam that remembers the shape of your body and adapts to it.

Futons - futon beds are essentially a frame with a folding mattress on it. A futon could function as both a sofa and a bed. Most futons come with a regular 6 inch foam mattress, which isn't really comfortable if the futon is going to be a person principal bed. If the futon is going to be a principal bed a better alternative is to buy an innerspring mattress for the bed. Some of the manufacturers create innerspring mattresses for futons. The innerspring mattresses are a little more expensive but are as well a good deal more comfortable. If an innerspring mattress is out of your budget, try to at least raise to an 8 inch foam mattress.

Airbed - an airbed is just what it sounds like - a bed full of air. Most of the airbeds are portable, easy to set-up, and easy to store after utilization. I have an airbed at my home for use as an extra mattress during the vacations when we always seem to have more overnight guests than beds. Today, airbeds are a great deal more than expansive parts of plastic. Our airbed has a pillow top mattress which makes it surprisingly comfortable. Some airbeds have changeable firmness degrees and/or a heated top to make them more comfortable.

Adaptable beds - an adjustable bed is a lot like a infirmary bed because it lets you to adapt the head and foot of the bed to your wishing. Adaptable come in all sizes and the larger sizes have different controls for each face of the bed.

Waterbeds - today, waterbeds are more hardy than the wonky water-filled mattresses from the 70's that you might get air sick on. The latest conceptions are made to appear like an innerspring/box spring set. The inner of the mattress has layers of foiling and upholstery to render support and comfort.

Maclaren Baby Strollers

The Maclaren Baby Buggy is thought to be one of the most impresssive inventions to come out of Britain. Maclaren buggies were included in the list of the top 100 things which have altered the way we live in the last 100 years.

Folding Crib

The story of Maclaren begain in 1965 with Owen Maclaren's development and patenting of the first Baby Buggy. He used his experience as a World War II airplane designer and engineer and vast understanding of light but sturdy structures that could still be folded easily to develop his first baby carriage models. His desire to create a better carraige was also influenced by a visit from his daughter who had to use a very inconvenient old-style 'pram' that was nearly impossible to use on airplanes. This inspired him to create a completely new generation of baby carriages and strollers.

Folding Crib

Working with light tube forms of aluminum, he was able to manufacture a frame comfortable for even larger children but could still fold up into something the size of a regular umbrella. The minimal weight and size of these new strollers was truly revolutionary. The first models weighed in at as little as 6 pounds (about 3kg). The unique folding mechanism, with folded size like that of an umbrella, allowed these new strollers to be used and then stored or transported with great ease.

Since the beginning, Maclaren's line of strollers has expanded to include a variety of models and sizes for different needs and purposes. They continue to make innovations in the market that have a very positive influence on the lives of parents and their children with continued improvements in safety, overall quality, and portability, in the process becoming one of the preeminent baby product companies world-wide.

The initial concept of using super-light, sturdy materials is now standard in the baby stroller industry and it is hard to find any stroller built today that doesn't make use of these innovations. This is a real blessing for parents, because even if you don't choose to use a Maclaren stroller, you can be very certain the the stroller you do choose will have taken advantage of the design features of Owen Maclaren's breakthrough design concepts.

Coming Home From the Hospital - 5 Things You Will Need

Much is said about how to prepare for going to the hospital, but who talks about what the house should look like when you come home? Here are five things to have ready for those first few days with a new baby.

Folding Crib

1. A clean bed -- There is nothing better than coming home to your own bed after sleeping in those uncomfortable, plastic covered beds in the hospital. And their sheets always come off, too, don't they? Having a crisp set of cotton sheets allows you to slip under the covers with your newborn and take a well-deserved nap. You will want to use a towel or "Chux" pads (those blue underpads from the hospital; stores sell them, too) for under your bottom in case the pad leaks. Whether you have had a cesarean or not, having a slew of pillows on the bed will help in so many ways. You will be able to prop yourself up to nurse, lie on your side without having to balance on your hip (a great newborn nursing position); tuck a pillow behind your back and lean backwards a little. Using a pillow under your elbow while you are nursing keeps your arm and back from getting tired and you from hunching over.

Folding Crib

2. A pitcher of water -- As much water as you thought you drank during pregnancy, you will drink even more postpartum! Your body will be getting rid of a lot of stored fluid and while it might seem contradictory, drinking water helps the fluid to leave your system... yes, going to the bathroom as much as when you were carrying the baby. But this is a good thing! Your ankles' swelling will leave, you will be able to wear your wedding ring again and your face will not look nearly as puffy. All great reasons for drinking more water, right?

3. Toys for the Toddlers -- Having a toy from the baby when you come home helps with diminishing sibling rivalry and excites your older child as you get you and the baby settled into bed. If you have younger kids, they will need their own space for playing close to you as you recover, especially if you had a cesarean section. Even a small bucket of books and cars can keep a child near you as well as entertain them for awhile. Switching out the toys every couple of days helps alleviate the boredom aspect, although many children love to hear the same book over and over, even to the point that we have memorized it! It can be fun for a young child to help with laundry, sorting socks or folding washcloths, for instance. This helps them feel helpful and can also entertain them for awhile.

4. Food -- If you are reading this during pregnancy, great! You can start your planning now for after the baby arrives. You will read in a variety of places about making double batches of meals and freezing half for your postpartum period -- and that is a great idea - but does not always address the needs of a very busy new mother. Minimizing any work you have to do is vital. If mom is tired, the whole household suffers. Therefore, buy what meals you can pre-made or, if that is cost-prohibitive, here are some ideas that require very little money. Chopped vegetables can be frozen and stored for several weeks. Having chopped vegetables allows meals to be put together quickly. Buying meat in bulk and dividing that into portions before freezing also adds to the speed-cooking idea. When making rice, make a double portion and freeze it. Rice is a great base for everything from soup to stews. Freeze fruits on a cookie sheet, then put them in baggies in the freezer where they wait for you or your toddler to munch on later. Once home, healthy quick snacks are vital. Cut up cheese, fruit and whole grain crackers are easy to prepare and are able to sit out on the table for nibbles as you walk by. (Keep a small plate next to your water.) Granola or protein bars are life savers; keep a variety in your pantry. Another vital part of having food for you as a brand new mother is requesting food of others. Even if it is difficult for you to ask, your partner or a good friend might start a food tree; one friend bringing a meal for the family each night for a week or two. Tending to a mother's most basic needs helps her recover from the work of the birth.

5. Help -- Having help at home cannot be over-stated. Whether it is someone you pay or a relative, delegating the household chores (whether they are done to your standards or not) relieves a lot of stress for new moms. How wonderful to have a clean bathroom or know the toddler's room is not a danger to life and limb. A cute idea some families have adopted is placing a note from the baby on the front door saying, "Hi! I'm glad to see you for a visit, but my mom and dad are tired, so please no longer than 15 minutes. If you brought food, you can stay for 20 minutes." Using humor imparts information without offending anyone. Utilize whatever help you can, including well-meaning friends and distant cousins; you will be glad you did.

Safety Tips From the Consumer Product Safety Commission

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission is a government agency that is charged with the job of protecting the consumer from injuries or death as the result of faulty consumer products. This agency has set up guidelines to ensure that products that you may want to purchase for your baby are safe. By doing a few simple checks you can provide your baby with the safest environment possible.

Folding Crib

When purchasing a back carrier, there are several items that you should check to ensure that you have chosen a carrier that will be safe for your child. You should check to make sure that the style that you have chosen has a restraining strap to secure your child. You should also check the leg holes to ensure that they are small enough to prevent the baby from slipping out but large enough to prevent chafing on the baby's legs. The frame of the carrier should have no pinch points, and should have a padded covering in the area around the baby's face. As long as the carrier that you want to purchase has met all these requirements, you should have no problems with it in the future.

Folding Crib

Many parents purchase bassinets or cradles for their babies. The Commission also has a checklist for these pieces of furniture. The base of these items should be wide for stability and the bottom should be sturdy. All the surfaces of the cradle or bassinet should be smooth with no protruding hardware or staples that could injure the child. If the furniture folds, the leg locks must be strong enough to prevent folding while in use. Finally, the mattress in the cradle or bassinet must fit snugly to prevent the baby from sliding in between the mattress and the side. By completing this checklist, you should be able to purchase the safest cradle or bassinet possible.

High chairs are another popular piece of baby furniture. When purchasing a chair, the Commission suggests that you purchase a style that has a waist and crotch strap that are independent of the tray and that the tray locks should also be secure. The agency also suggests that the buckle on the waist strap should be easy to use and the base of the high chair should be wide to ensure its stability. It suggests that you check the caps or plugs on any tubing to make sure that they are firmly attached and that they cannot be removed by a child who can choke on them. Finally, if it is a folding chair, you should make sure that the legs locks are strong enough to prevent the chair from accidentally folding up. By ensuring that a high chair meets all these requirements, you should be able to buy one that will last you for years.

These are just a few of the many products the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has evaluated. Although you may think that their checklists are time-consuming, you should realize that all the recommendations made by the agency were the results of a complaint or an injury sustained because of a particular flaw with the product. By using the agency's guidelines, you can be assured of purchasing the safest items possible for your baby.

Long gone are the days of the classic style though functionally limited baby pram stroller. Today's parents are active, on the move and in need of high end, all-terrain baby strollers that feature ergonomic designs, compact folding mechanisms, plenty of storage compartments and comfortable seats and back rests. The baby stroller market runs the gamut from bare basic to super luxury and discerning parents that want the best for their little tykes have no shortage of terrific high end strollers to choose from.

Folding Crib

Whether you stroll on city sidewalks, country trails or rugged off-road terrain there's a high end baby stroller tailor made for your unique and active lifestyle. Several top brand name stroller manufacturers have recently unveiled expertly designed and accessory-laden high end baby strollers including Bugaboo, Maclaren, Mutsy and Stokke. Combining contemporary and ergonomic designs, practical high quality accessories and rugged all-terrain capabilities this new class of high end baby stroller is quickly becoming the standard by which all others are measured.

Folding Crib

For maneuverability, comfort and convenience few strollers can match the Bugaboo Cameleon that is capable of handling both infants and toddlers. This fully loaded, multi-terrain baby stroller is not only sleek and crafty in design but also rugged enough to handle the rigors of both city and country surfaces. The interchangeable wheels of the Cameleon allow you to shift the swivel features to handle street sidewalks as well as rougher trail grounds. The unique 3-in-1 design of the stroller frame adapts to car seats while the reversible bassinet can be placed facing forwards or backwards depending on the trip. Cameleon strollers also feature a wide variety of high end stroller accessories including sun canopy tops, transport bags and wheeled boards for older kids to ride along with their younger brother or sister.

Stokke, manufacturers of the popular Tripp Trapp highchair also produce a fantastic selection of premium baby strollers that feature a contemporary and minimalist design that is made from lightweight aluminum and automobile grade plastic. Stokke baby strollers offer 2-way facing seats with five reclining positions, a waterproof canopy with a netted feature for better ventilation and large rear wheels for better handling and maneuverability. The depth adjustment mechanisms of the Stokke Explory strollers allow you to comfortable and easily raise your baby further from the wheels and chassis for a safer and more convenient stroll.

Traveling With an Infant on a Plane

Travel, especially international travel, can be stressful enough but for someone with a new infant, taking an international flight can be especially daunting. Not to worry, however. Airlines know that many parents fly with their infants and therefore they do the best they can to accommodate their youngest passengers.

Folding Crib

The first hurdle to traveling with an infant is the security check. Although airlines require all carry-on liquids to be in three ounce containers and held entirely in a one quart Ziploc bag, an exception is made for infant formula and breast milk. Parents are allowed to pack as much formula as they can fit in their carry-on luggage, however security check will generally be easier if the formula is divided into containers of three ounces or less. Other parents prefer to pack the formula dry and add water in-flight; just make sure it is pre-measured to avoid messes.

Folding Crib

Families with small children are generally given extra time to board the plane, usually after the first and business class passengers but before the general economy class. Your stroller can be taken right up to the entrance of the plane. There you need to fold it and leave it for the crew to pack. It will be waiting for you after you exit the plane. Make sure you fold the stroller properly as the airline is not responsible for any damages caused by their employees folding your stroller for you.

Once you are on the plane, the most distressing part for your infant will most likely be during take-off and landing. The change in cabin pressure can hurt his ears. While an adult has the option of chewing gum, an infant can be best soothed by feeding or sucking on a pacifier during that time. Once the cabin pressure has settled, most infants, especially those under six months old, will be lulled by the noise of the plane's engines and may sleep through the entire flight. Some airlines will even provide small cribs that fasten to the wall of the plane just above your seat so you don't have to hold your infant the entire time.

Having an infant awake and crying on a plane is many a parent's worst nightmare. First, make sure that your baby's ear pressure has normalized. After that, the usual routine of feeding, burping or changing your baby can alleviate his crying just as it often does at home. If that doesn't work, the cabin crew is generally understanding of your need to pace up and down the aisle with your infant after the fasten seat belt light has been turned off. If you baby still won't stop crying, it is not your job to worry about the comfort of the other passengers. You've done everything you can, but sometimes babies just cry.

Both feeding and changing your baby can take place in your seat, especially if your baby is little enough. However, as most airplane bathrooms come with changing tables, it may be more polite to use them, especially when the diaper is very dirty. Breast feeding is allowed on planes; request a window seat or use an extra blanket for added privacy. If you have bottled breast milk or formula that needs to be heated up, have the attendant pour hot water in an air sickness bag and place your bottle in the bag. Check first to make sure the bag is plastic-lined so that it won't leak.

After your baby is fed, burped, changed and hopefully asleep, relax and enjoy the flight!

Old Fashion Carriages - Make Way For Modern Baby Strollers

There's baby gear for everything, and that certainly includes strollers! When it comes to baby accessories, strollers are certainly available in a very wide selection of shapes, size, features and benefits. When narrowing down your ideal baby stroller, first consider the kind of baby transportation you need. Maybe you have in mind something to transport baby - and all that equipment - along the lines of a traditional stroller. You might even find that having more than one stroller is a smart move.

Folding Crib

We'll examine some basic strollers to consider. As previously alluded to, there really isn't any limit on the numerous features - and price tags - for baby strollers on the market today!

Folding Crib

Seat-Carrier Frame Strollers

These models are made for newborns who can't sit up on their own yet. For that reason, this sort of stroller is not equipped with an adjustable seat. In fact, there isn't a seat! It lays flat and designed to carry a newborn car seat for any walk-abouts you wish to do. No need waking up the baby either. Simply transport the car seat directly to the stroller and off you go!

Combo Strollers

"Combos" - are a carriage and stroller in one. This kind of design can be used with a brand new infant. They are designed to carry your baby laying flat in either a car seat or bassinet.

In theory, you'll be able to use this sort of stroller from birth up through the toddler years. (It supports around 40 pounds). And when the baby gets older, you can use the adjustable seat attachment for the correct sitting setup. These strollers can get rather expensive though, priced all the way to 0. But for this high dollar you get plenty of options such as additional storage space for extra baby gear and large canopies for protection from the sun and rain.

Travel System Strollers

For mobility, these units are awesome! Babies who aren't capable of sitting up can be moved right in their car seat, which securely fastens right to the stroller. When it's time to head back to the car, simply raise the seat off the stroller and snap it into the car's safety belt system. Very convenient!

Old Fashioned Baby Buggies

These 'old school' models of strollers are still seen today. They usually have spoked-wheels and lots of room for baby and all that baby gear. Carriages are perfect for newborns and a few models have removable 'carrying cots'.

The not-so-good news is that carriages are pretty big, cumbersome and not overly maneuverable. They're particularly awkward to use in crowed city environments where you will encounter quite a few obstacles to contend with. Still, if 'old fashion' appeals to you, these strollers are big and roomy and provide a touch nostalgia for the past.

Traditional Baby Strollers

Traditional strollers are in the 'everything including the kitchen sink' class. Traditional strollers vary from lightweight designs all the way to massive, industrial-strength models.

The 'ironman' models are made with deep compartments and plenty of room. They have designed-in shock absorbers on all 4 wheels and are manufactured to withstand plenty of punishment. But they're bulky. Yes, they are firm and stable, but rather massive.

There are several features found in traditional strollers like snack trays, lots of baby gear storage, one-handed folding capabilities, and adjustable seating. Some are actually all-in-one models and might be designed to work with bassinets and car seats. But they do have a tendency to be a bit on the heavy side so traveling with them is more of a task.

Umbrella Strollers

Umbrella strollers are aptly named due to their handles that resemble those on an umbrella. These strollers are extraordinarily lightweight and very convenient for traveling. Most umbrella strollers fold easily but the ride tends to be a bit rough (depending on the terrain). Umbrellas make a great spare stroller and their priced very reasonably.

All-Terrain Strollers

While on the topic of terrain, we like to take our babies EVERYWHERE we tend to go! Including off road. This can be where an all-terrain stroller earns its keep.

These strollers are heavy-duty and can take the punishment due to oversized bicycle-like tires. And yes, they are inflatable! And these strollers are equipped with 3 of them. Bicycle-like tires give the baby a gentler ride. Plus they're capable of handling heavier loads which makes them ideal for 'larger' babies and also when you're transporting extra baby gear.

Jogging strollers

Since we include our babies in many of our activities, we need a stroller that is as mobile as we are. You can find strollers especially made for active parents who wish to include their little ones with them on their runs.

A stroller designed for jogging is a three-wheeled apparatus with oversized, air-filled tires. These strollers have extra long handles which positions the stroller a little more out in front of the jogger so running legs have ample space to move and not be hindered by the stroller frame.

Safety features on this kind of stroller come with a front brake and a wrist strap so everything stays in control at all times. This being extremely important. Their rugged design allows the stroller to go off the beaten path like an all-terrain stroller.

There are a number of baby stroller features to work with your active lifestyle. From traditional buggies, all-in-one travel units, lightweight umbrella strollers and extra hardy strollers for active families, you're sure to find the perfect baby stroller to complement your individual preference and baby transportation needs.

How to Find the Best Ash Furniture

Ash is a type of hard wood that is very good for making wood furniture. Some of the ash furniture that you are likely to find in the market includes chests, drawers, wardrobes and cabinets. However, most manufacturers use ash wood to make tables and chairs. Apart from its hardiness, another characteristic of this wood that makes it ideal for furniture is its durability and natural sheen. You can buy this furniture to make your home look different and elegant. Here is how you can find stylish ash furniture that will add value to your home.

Folding Crib

It is always important to consider the design of any piece of furniture that you intend to buy. Ash furniture, just like any other type of furniture, comes in all sorts of designs and shapes. Choose a design that best fits your tastes and preferences. You should also consider the overall style of your house. Do not get the ash wood furniture if it will look odd in your rooms. If you do not want to buy ash furniture that will end up looking out of place, do not buy just one piece. Buy different sets of ash furniture and place them strategically all over the house. For instance, if you want to buy ash wood chairs, you should also buy an ash table or cabinet to go with the chairs.

Folding Crib

If you want to add beauty to your home, get a few sets of Ash furniture. You do not have to part with a lot of money to buy this type of wood furniture. It is possible to get chairs, cabinets, tables and other items made from ash wood at a very low price, you just need to look at different shops to find which one offers the best discount on its furniture.

Painting Bifold Closet Doors Brings New Life to Them

Every few years I begin the process of "nesting". This happens when I am ready for another child and all of my energies are focused on how to put a fresh look on something older. My husband and I are expecting our fourth child and we want to redecorate the nursery by putting on Bifold closet doors, among other things.

Folding Crib

I am fairly handy with tools and a paintbrush so I was able to take the closet doors down and prepare them for a new coat of paint. Having a baby means having lots of essentials on hand such as diapers, wipes, crib bedding etc...Having a built-in closet with Bifold closet doors makes it a lot easier to see everything at a glance. It's also a lot easier to arrange the closet space in more functional ways.

Folding Crib

Back to the painting! The nursery was painted in earth tones. I wanted more pastels in the color range of violet, lilac, and lavender schemes. I painted the Bifold closet doors in colors that were one shade darker. When doing this, one always runs the risk of having the closet doors be the center of attention. That didn't happen in this case. Instead, the doors took on a textured appearance, and they seemed to bring all of the aspects of the room together.

There are many styles of Bifold closet doors. The ones in our home are the raised panel type. This style of door allows for more creative options when painting them. Between the raised areas of the doors, I was able to apply some stenciling. This helped to create a theme for the nursery. This time around, it is Winnie-The-Pooh.

Our nursery has been used on three different occasions, and soon it will make four. The doors in the room are the originals we bought eleven years ago. They have never fallen off their track, nor have they come apart through too much use. If a new coat of paint can give them extended years in our home, then it sounds like a good plan to me.
